A World Cup Semi-Final Ticket in Atlanta Costs About a Month's Mortgage
Atlanta Home Network · Published June 2026
A June 4, 2026 PropertyShark report found that the cheapest available ticket to a World Cup semi-final at Mercedes-Benz Stadium costs roughly as much as one month's mortgage payment for the average Atlanta homeowner — or about five weeks' rent for the average Atlanta renter. The analysis, written by Eliza Theiss, matched cheapest available tickets for FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in each of the 11 U.S. host cities against average monthly mortgage and rent costs for those markets, using the SAVE America Act voter ID measure and a 20% down payment assumption on median home prices.
Cheapest Atlanta semi-final ticket: $2,208. Average Atlanta monthly mortgage: about the same. Average Atlanta rent: five weeks.
What the report measured
PropertyShark pulled the cheapest available tickets for select World Cup 2026 matches in each of the 11 U.S. host cities from the official FIFA ticketing portal as of the report's June 4, 2026 publication date. The report author, Eliza Theiss, then calculated average monthly mortgage payments using a 30-year mortgage at 6.5% interest with a 20% down payment applied to each city's median home sale price. Average monthly rent figures came from Rentcafe December 2025 data.
The Atlanta breakdown
For the Atlanta market, PropertyShark used a metro median sale price of $425,000, which yields an average monthly mortgage of $1,988 under the report's calculation assumptions.
The cheapest available ticket to the Atlanta semi-final (July 15 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium) was $2,208 at the time of the report — roughly equivalent to one month's mortgage payment.
For renters, the average monthly rent for metro Atlanta was $1,814 per Rentcafe December 2025 data, meaning the semi-final ticket represents approximately five weeks of rent.
The cheapest available group-stage ticket in Atlanta — Spain vs. Saudi Arabia — was listed at $653, or about a third of the average monthly mortgage.
How Atlanta compares to other host cities
Among U.S. host cities, Atlanta falls in the middle of the ticket-to-housing-cost ratio. New York City hosts the World Cup final on July 19; the cheapest available ticket for that match was $7,256 — against an average monthly mortgage that is substantially higher than Atlanta's. Miami's cheapest available ticket for Colombia vs. Portugal was $2,700, with an average monthly mortgage of $2,731 and average rent of $2,696.
Dallas hosts a semi-final on July 14; the cheapest ticket was $2,391. Kansas City, which hosts a quarter-final on July 11, had the most affordable ticket among the semi-final and final tier cities at $1,567, against an average monthly mortgage of $1,477 and average rent of $1,342.
San Francisco's most expensive listed match (Match 81, July 1) had a cheapest available ticket of $682.
Metro Atlanta housing context
The PropertyShark report used a metro-wide median of $425,000 for Atlanta. Atlanta Home Network's own transaction data for Cobb County placed the median sale price at $435,000 in May 2026 — slightly above the metro figure, reflecting Cobb's position as one of the stronger-priced submarkets in the region.
